Description
What does "open box" mean?
Open-box products are returned products with opened or damaged packaging, but fully checked from a technical point of view and completely functional. They come with the same warranty as new products.
Shelly Qubino Wave i4 DC is a retrofit Z-Wave device, designed to be installed behind existing wall switches to manually activate up to 12 different scenes or actions in the smart home system. Unlike a relay, this module contains no switching relays, being dedicated exclusively to reading inputs from physical buttons or switches.
This is the direct current (DC) powered version of the module, suitable for integration into switches or panels with a low-voltage DC supply, unlike the standard version powered directly from the AC mains. It runs on the latest Z-Wave S800 chip, one of the most widespread standardised smart home technologies, compatible with any Z-Wave hub and with over 4000 certified devices in this ecosystem. It supports direct device-to-device control without a gateway for up to 8 triggered actions per button, which allows complex scenarios even without a permanent connection to a central controller.
It is useful for those who want to keep their existing physical switches but extend their functionality with smart home scenes and automations, such as controlling several lights at once, activating an away mode or triggering an evening scenario with a single press of a button.
Note: this module has no relays of its own and cannot switch electrical loads directly; it works exclusively as an input reader for scene control in the Z-Wave ecosystem.
Practical use cases
- Mounted behind an existing switch, it turns each press into a Z-Wave scene, for example switching on several lights at once.
- A button next to the front door can activate a "leaving home" mode or an evening scene with a single press.
- Through direct device-to-device control, the buttons can control other Z-Wave devices even without a permanent connection to the controller.
- Note: Requires a compatible Z-Wave hub/controller (e.g. Home Assistant with a Z-Wave adapter) to be connected to the network and controlled from the app.
