Description
What does "open box" mean?
Open-box products are returned products with opened or damaged packaging, but fully checked from a technical point of view and completely functional. They come with the same warranty as new products.
The Shelly 1 Mini Gen4 is an ultra-compact smart relay with dry (potential-free) contacts, designed for remote control of electrical appliances and circuits with voltages different from the device's supply voltage. Its small dimensions (29 x 34 x 16 mm) allow it to be mounted behind switches, sockets or even inside light fittings, where space is limited.
Like the rest of the Gen4 series, the device benefits from multi-protocol connectivity - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee and Matter - and an improved processor compared with the previous generation (Shelly 1 Mini Gen3), with 8 MB of flash memory. Matter certification allows native integration into any compatible hub, and Bluetooth is used both for quick setup from the Shelly Smart Control app and as a gateway for nearby Shelly BLU devices.
The distinguishing feature of this model is the dry contact output, fully galvanically isolated from the device's power supply. In practice, the relay can switch a circuit with a voltage different from the one powering the Shelly 1 Mini Gen4 - useful for automating garage doors, irrigation systems or low-voltage equipment, without the risk of electrical interference between the control circuit and the load circuit.
It supports loads of up to 8 A at 240 V AC and 5 A at 30 V DC, covering lighting, fans, electric locks, doorbells and other low-to-medium power appliances. It can work standalone, without a hub, directly on the local Wi-Fi network, or via Shelly cloud services, with control from the app, the built-in web interface or integrations with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home and Home Assistant.
In practice, the Shelly 1 Mini Gen4 can automate a garage door or an irrigation system via the dry contact, control a doorbell or an electric lock, turn a lamp or a fan into a smart device, or be discreetly integrated behind an existing switch, without modifying the electrical installation.
Like all Gen4 devices, it supports local scripting, schedules, scenes, webhooks, MQTT(S) and HTTP/HTTPS WebSockets, as well as Wi-Fi and Zigbee range extender functions, to extend network coverage to other smart devices in the home.
Note: no additional hub is required for operation via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (as a gateway) or Matter. If you opt for Zigbee connectivity, a compatible Zigbee hub or coordinator (for example Home Assistant with a Zigbee dongle) is needed to include and control the device.
Practical use cases
- Mounted behind a conventional wall switch, it turns a room's lighting into a circuit controlled from the app, by voice command or automatically, without replacing the existing switch.
- Installed on the circuit of a recirculation pump or an electric water heater, it allows remote switching on/off and scheduling of operating hours to save energy.
- Integrated into a home automation system, it can automatically switch off sockets or lighting when the whole family leaves home, based on geolocation from the app.
- Mounted in the wall box on the outdoor lighting circuit, it can be scheduled to switch on automatically at sunset and switch off in the morning.
