Description
The Shelly i4 Gen3 is a Wi-Fi controller with four digital inputs, designed to pick up signals from existing switches, buttons or sensors and turn them into commands for scenes and automations, without switching any electrical load. It is the ideal solution when you want to keep conventional wall switches but add smart functions behind them.
Each of the four inputs supports up to four types of action (single, double, triple and long press), which means a single Shelly i4 Gen3 can control up to 16 different scenes. It is useful for triggering lighting scenes, automatically opening roller shutters, activating alarms or commanding other Shelly devices in the home, all starting from an existing switch that remains visually unchanged.
The new ESP-Shelly-C3F processor with 8 MB of memory provides fast response and increased stability. The device supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, is powered at 110-240V and can be integrated with scripts, webhooks, MQTT and other advanced protocols for complex automations.
Practical use cases
- Connected to the existing wall switches, it lets you use them to control other Shelly devices in the home, without additional wiring.
- Useful for turning a conventional button into a scene trigger (e.g. pressing one button switches off all the lights in the house).
- It can read the signal from an external sensor (door contact, panic button) and pass it on to automations in the app or Home Assistant.
- It does not directly switch electrical loads - it works as an input/sensor for other automations, keeping the physical switches functional.
