Description
The Shelly BLU Gateway Gen3 is the piece that links Bluetooth devices from the Shelly BLU family to your home Wi-Fi network. It plugs into an ordinary USB-A port, needs no wiring or wall box mounting, and starts working immediately: it picks up signals from nearby BLU devices and makes them visible in the Shelly Smart Control app, locally or via the cloud.
It is designed especially for Shelly BLU TRV thermostatic radiator heads, which it can monitor and control remotely, with support for up to five such devices paired simultaneously. A dedicated pairing button and a status LED make commissioning simple, even for a first Shelly installation.
Beyond its role as a Bluetooth - Wi-Fi bridge, the third generation adds scripts, time schedules, webhooks and MQTT, so it can be integrated directly into an existing automation system or into platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings.
Features
- Bluetooth 4.2 (BLE) and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity
- Compact stick format, powered directly from a 5 V USB Type-A port
- Pairing with multiple Shelly BLU devices, including up to 5 Shelly BLU TRV thermostatic heads
- Dedicated pairing button and status LED for connection, pairing and OTA updates
- Local monitoring and control or via Shelly Cloud, with a built-in web interface
- Scripts, 20 time schedules and 20 webhooks (5 addresses per webhook)
- MQTT support and encryption for integration into external systems
- Wi-Fi range extender function
- Compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings
Practical use cases
- In an apartment with radiators fitted with Shelly BLU TRV thermostatic heads, the gateway is left in a USB charger in the hallway and brings all the radiators into the app: you can check from the office whether the bedroom has reached the set temperature and turn off the heating before leaving for the weekend.
- In a rarely used vacation home, it stays connected to a router with a USB port and lets you monitor room temperatures remotely; with a short script you start the heating a few hours before arrival, without needing a wall-mounted control panel.
- In a building with thick walls, where the Bluetooth signal does not reach from one end to the other, one gateway is placed on each floor in a free USB port, covering the whole building without additional wiring.
- In an automation system already running on MQTT, the gateway sends BLU device data directly to the broker, so Bluetooth sensors can trigger scenes alongside the rest of the equipment in the installation.
