Description
Shelly 1L Gen3 is a single-channel smart relay designed specifically for electrical installations without a neutral wire, where conventional switches have no access to neutral. It connects directly to the Wi-Fi network and can be added quickly via Bluetooth, with no additional hub needed.
The device uses only the live wire for power and control, making it ideal for retrofitting older homes, where running a new neutral cable would mean costly work. For LED bulbs, a Shelly Bypass 1L/2L connected in parallel with the load is required, included in the package; for incandescent bulbs the bypass is not required.
Shelly 1L Gen3 supports schedules, scenes and local actions, as well as scripting, HTTPS, MQTTS and incoming and outgoing WebSocket connections. An internal temperature sensor protects the device against overheating, and its compact size allows it to fit in standard wall boxes, behind existing switches.
In practice, Shelly 1L Gen3 is the right choice for turning a conventional hallway, bedroom or living room switch into a smart control point, without major work on the electrical installation. It can be scheduled to switch the light on at sunset and off automatically at a fixed time, or integrated into a scene triggered by a Shelly BLU Motion sensor.
Control is via the Shelly Smart Control app, and the device also works as a Wi-Fi range extender and a Bluetooth gateway for other Shelly BLU accessories in the home. It integrates with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Home Assistant and Samsung SmartThings, and via firmware it also supports the KNXnet/IP protocol.

- Mounted behind a conventional wall switch, it turns a room's lighting into a circuit controlled from the app, by voice command or automatically, without replacing the existing switch.
